The big picture: using wildflower strips for pest control
RI was established in 1993 by the Lawes Agricultural Trust to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding of Rothamsted Research. RI is supported by donations and bequests from the Lawes Agricultural Trust and numerous other Trusts and Foundations, as well as from the public. Our primary activity has been the support of researcher training and development through the Rothamsted International Fellowship Scheme which enables overseas researchers to study and train in the UK for up to a year. To date, 204 researchers from 35 different countries have been supported by the programme. As we celebrate our 25th Anniversary year we have ambitious plans to increase the number of fellowships we support and to expand our activities to provide further in-country support to RI fellows following their return home.
RI fellowships provide specialist training, but also lay the foundation for long-term international partnerships and in many cases, contribute to the successful careers of the RI fellows in their home countries. The case studies here highlight just a few of our thriving alumni.
