Biography

Andy leads the wheat architecture team, using reverse genetics to modify plant development for optimisation of yield components and stress responses. He also has interests in the role of grain colour in coat-imposed dormancy and pre-harvest sprouting. Andy has expertise in plant biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics and bioinformatics. He developed a reverse genetics platform for wheat based on chemical mutagenesis and DNA variant detection that is widely used in the wheat community. He is currently running projects to assess novel alleles in (mainly) hormone signalling pathways of wheat for effects on architecture and stress tolerance.
