Biography

Nimai is a mathematical modeller (post doctorate research scientist) at Rothamsted Research, working on two strategic programmes viz. DFW (Designing Future Wheat) and ASSIST (Achieving Sustainable Agricultural Systems). The main aim of his work is to design and test in silico wheat ideotypes of high yield potentials for future target environments, and to identify key wheat traits for improvement. He is also actively involved in silico quantification of national wheat yield potentials and yield gaps across the UK under current and future climates. After finishing his PhD in soil carbon modelling from the University of New England, Australia, he joined INRA, France in 2012 as post doctorate researcher in ecosystem modelling and worked on modelling of carbon, nitrogen, water and heat dynamics and greenhouse gas (CO2 and N2O) exchange and emissions in/from managed grasslands and grain cropping systems until 2017. Nimai has joined Rothamsted Research at the end of 2017 as a mathematical modeller working on wheat plant (ideotype). He is specialising in modelling of soils, agriculture, agroecosystems and plants. His main expertise is in mathematical, statistical and mechanistic models of soil-plant-atmosphere interface. Nimai is also actively involved in international activities on crop model inter-comparison and improvement, such as AgMIP-Wheat.
