Biography

Michaela is investigating the role of an IQD protein in the development and stress response of Arabidopsis thaliana. This protein, when overexpressed, is responsible for an alteration in phenotype and confers an enhanced resistance to drought. Michaela is trying to understand the molecular mechanisms responsible for this phenotype. Besides Arabidopsis, this protein has been introduced into Camelina sativa to investigate whether it confers the same phenotype in an agriculturally relevant crop. In a second project, Michaela is investigating the role of SAC3, a component of the TREX-complex in Arabidopsis, which plays a crucial part in the export of RNA from the nucleus into the cytoplasm. Mutants of SAC3 are impaired in RNA export and we are trying to understand the mechanics of this trait.
