Biography

David is a qualified statistician who retrained in biology & computing to work as a bioinformatician in agricultural and forestry systems. He works mainly on the analysis of next generation sequencing data for biologists working on soil metagenomics and crop diversity. He leads the development and delivery of RNA-seq training courses at Rothamsted Research, and helps biologists analyse their own data using bioinformatics systems hosted at the institute and elsewhere. As a member of the applied bioinformatics group, he maintains some local bioinformatics systems and develops Galaxy workflows and R scripts to streamline analysis pipelines that are frequently used by researchers. He is a visiting lecturer in crop and environmental protection at the University of Hertfordshire. He has contributed to papers on fungal pathogens and insect pests, and to the book: "Control of arable crop pathogens: climate change mitigation, impacts and adaptation", published in 2016 by Springer.
