The big picture: using wildflower strips for pest control
Farming Footprints and Adaptations
Aranzazu is interested in the cycling of carbon and nitrogen (N) in agricultural soils and how it can be managed to maintain high productivity, whilst also reducing environmental issues. She completed her PhD studies in Spain where she investigated and evaluated the impact of dairy farming practices on soil greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in order to make recommendations for practices that reduce emissions and increase crop yields. Aranzazu is currently designing and conducting laboratory experiments to investigate the fate of the applied N to agricultural soils. She is managing the new Plant-DENitrification Incubation System (P-DENIS), a new Rothamsted facility that allows monitoring of GHG emission from plant-soil systems. She is currently focused on the laboratory-controlled experiments, and continues collaborating/helping with field-scaled experiments on soil GHG emissions in the UK and abroad by advising on experimental issues and overseeing the collection of field data.
