Biography
Alison Lovegrove is a biochemist, and Deputy Lead of the Crop Resource Use and Quality team, who studies cereal grain quality for improved human health and processing, focusing specifically on the content and composition of dietary fibre. Her work helps improve staple foods like bread and rice, making them healthier and more nutritious, with better fibre content that supports digestive health and reduces risk factors for diseases like diabetes and heart disease. Alison analyses grains using chromatography and mass spectrometry to understand how fibre is built and how breeding can enhance it.
