Biography

Freddie leads the Engineering Biology for Agriculture strategic team and also leads the Green Engineering Institute Strategic Programme. Her research focuses on diverse aspects of plant proteostasis, from deciphering fundamental mechanisms governing the synthesis and degradation of proteins, to the ultimate application of this knowledge for crop improvement. To address these challenges, our diverse team uses a range of techniques including biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, statistical genetics, and multi-omic analysis. Current interests include:

•    Understanding the genetic architecture of protein abundance in plants

•    Targeted protein degradation mechanisms, in particular the N-degron pathways

•    Proteostatic and other mechanisms involved in oxygen sensing and flood tolerance

•    Tools to study protein lifetime

•    The impact of transgenesis on the proteome
