About

What if we could guide evolution to address real-world challenges?

Inspired by Darwin's theory of evolution and natural selection, Adaptive Laboratory Evolution (ALE) is a modern scientific technique that enables scientists to develop evolved microbial strains for specific tasks. By applying controlled stress and selective conditions, researchers can promote microbes to evolve beneficial traits, such as producing valuable compounds, surviving extreme conditions, or degrading pollutants. Join Dr Marianna Dourou from FA Bio to discover how Darwin's principles and laboratory evolution are contributing to a better and more sustainable microbial future.

Café Scientifique is a place where, for the price of a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, anyone can come to explore the latest ideas in science and technology. Meetings take place in cafes, bars, restaurants and even theatres, but always outside a traditional academic context. Anyone is welcome to come and learn something new, ask questions, and join in the discussion.
