Communication and Public Engagement
Susan is Head of Communications at Rothamsted Research. She is an award-winning journalist and communicator with a 30-year career as a broadcaster, writer and speaker. Her beat is science, technology, environment, medicine and health, and their political, social and economic context. She has worked on television, radio and online, and for newspapers, magazines and journals including BBC Newsnight (1995 to 2013), The Independent newspaper, New Scientist and Computer Weekly. She has talked at conferences, staged workshops and chaired debates in parliament. Most recently (2015 to 2017), she looked after communications and public engagement at the Medical Research Council London Institute of Medical Sciences at Hammersmith Hospital. Before all of that she studied Physics at Imperial College London, worked in interim roles as a lab technician and a pig midwife, and held down a reasonably successful part-time paper round.
