BIOGRAPHY

Richard manages the Rothamsted Research farm at North Wyke in Devon. The farm forms part of the Global Farm Platform Network, which works to optimise ruminant livestock production around the world. The farm is one of the UK's leading centres for grassland research and is a world-class facility to compare alternative approaches to livestock production from grass. It is a highly instrumented farm, providing understanding of soil health and availability and the effect of different systems on meat quality and nutritional value. His key areas of expertise are grazing systems, managing diets and growth rates using forage based systems, as well as farm re-organisation and design and project management. Richard has previously managed two large estates of mixed farming operations, in Oxfordshire and in West Sussex. He has more than 35 years of varied experience in many aspects of agriculture, which have created a valuable transferable skills base. Richard is an innovative and focused individual, with a combination of practicality, common sense, professionalism and enthusiasm, underpinned by a strong passion for farming and the countryside. He is a director of Chichester Crop Consultancy, an NFU committee member, and a member of the British Grassland Society and the GrowAhead Club.
