BIOGRAPHY

Keywan is a bioinformatics scientist and software developer. He has BSc/MSc/PhD in Bioinformatics and Genome Research from Bielefeld University, Germany. Keywan is head of bioinformatics at Rothamsted Research and founder of KnetMiner (Knowledge Network Miner). His research focuses on the development of novel approaches for candidate gene prioritisation and interactive knowledge discovery that can hep to bridge the genotype to phenotype gap. In April 2008, Keywan joined Rothamsted Research as a bioinformatics scientist to work on the BBSRC-BBR funded ONDEX SABR project (BB/F006039/1). He was responsible for the development of plug-ins, graph databases and biological application cases for the data integration platform Ondex. During this time, he invented and launched the KnetMiner project. In 2012, a BBSRC TRDF (BB/I023860/1) was awarded to him to develop KnetMiner from a basic prototype to a fast, interactive web application for multiple species. In October 2015, he was awarded an Innovate UK grant with GeneStack Ltd to integrate the KnetMiner tool suite into a cloud-based bioinformatics platform. In December 2016, Keywan was awarded BBSRC TRDF (BB/N022874/1) to develop DiseaseKnetMiner, a novel tool for mining integrated biological networks of host and pathogen interaction.
