Biointeractions and Crop Protection
BIOGRAPHY
Ian joined the Biointeractions and Crop Protection Department in March 2016 to provide essential laboratory support within the department and the insect quarantined facility, following six years of excellent service within the Plant Sciences Department. Ian assists in the setting up of equipment in preparation for research and he is responsible for cleaning and maintenance of the labs. Ian has responsibility for the operation of the service room equipment used in the disinfection and sterilisation process. He provides support in quality assurance through weekly injection of standards in gas chromatography machines, and he retrieves and prints off results of tests for analysis. Ian provides insect cage refurbishment for the insectary. In addition, Ian received training in the use of the institute’s online-ordering system, and he is one of two approved users of this system in the Biointeractions and Crop Protection Department. Ian contributes to the department’s health and safety implementation plans by assisting the department’s secretary and by liaising with the health and safety office and other departments when required. Ian is interested in learning more about gas chromatography operations. He is keen to develop his skills in using the gas chromatography autosamplers to run samples in the process of separation and analysis of compounds.
