Dr EUDRI VENTER
Scientific Specialist - Electron Microscopist
Computational and Analytical Sciences
Eudri Venter joined the Bioimaging unit at Rothamsted Research in April 2019, as the resident Electron Microscopy specialist. He completed his PhD in Genetics at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. His work focused on improving the understanding of the African horse sickness virus infection cycle in host and vector species. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Microbiology at the same university, with an emphasis on the creation of novel recombinant viral strains through reverse genetics. Though he is a virologist by training, his true passion is microscopy, in particular, the use of an integrative microscopy approach to address research questions in a variety of different scientific disciplines. His areas of expertise include scanning and transmission electron microscopy; light, widefield fluorescence and confocal/super resolution microscopy, as well as micro analytical techniques such as energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, electron backscatter diffraction and atomic force microscopy. Currently his focus is on the use of electron microscopy for agricultural research purposes, collaborating on a variety of different projects.
2007 – B.Sc Genetics, University of Pretoria, South Africa; 2008 – B.Sc Honours (Genetics), University of Pretoria, South Africa; 2014 – Ph.D (Genetics), University of Pretoria, South Africa; 2015 – Post doctoral fellowship in Microbiology and Plant Pathology, University of Pretoria, South Africa.
