Prof. ANDREW WHITMORE

Soils and Agricultural Systems Modeller

Net Zero and Resilient Farming

BIOGRAPHY

Andy is a modeller with more than 35 years' experience in multi-disciplinary research into the carbon and nitrogen cycles and soil physical processes. He leads work on sustainable systems and is responsible for competitively-won projects worth over £1M per year, with funding from BBSRC, NERC, AHDB, FACCE-JPI and Defra. In 2017, he won an RC-funded network grant to foster cooperative working in sustainable agriculture (www.sirn.org.uk) and is investigating how both farmers and nations might cooperate better to deliver the second (“No Hunger”) of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (http://faccesurplus.org/research-projects/tsara/). He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers in the scientific literature, is a visiting professor at Cranfield University, a member of the NERC peer-review college and associate editor for SUM.
