LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SERVICES (LIS)

LIS provides print and online library services for Rothamsted employees across all sites as well as safeguarding Rothamsted's heritage collections.

ABOUT

Library and Information Services' (LIS) activities are clustered into six strategic themes: information resource discovery & management; heritage collections; analytics, compliance & reporting; research information management; PhD support and knowledge management. Rothamsted Library and Information Services (LIS) manages one of the oldest specialist agricultural library collections in the UK. The collections located in Harpenden reflect the Institute's research interests with books and journals in soil science, plant sciences, agronomy, entomology (including apiculture), nematology, pesticide science, plant diseases, mycology and biomathematics.

Rothamsted also holds a comprehensive collection of early printed books on agriculture, published between 1471 and 1840. Books were acquired systematically in the early years of the 20th century by the Director of Rothamsted, Sir John Russell and the collection has not been added to since his retirement in 1943. Although LIS support Rothamsted's research activities primarily, visitors are welcome to view our print collections by prior arrangement using the contact address on this page. Material is available for reference, but not for loan.
