EVENT
BUG HUNT
Join us for a fun and educational bug hunt at Rothamsted Research Harpenden site on Wednesday, June 21st from 5-7pm.
Meeting at our free visitors car park at 5pm, we'll head out on a guided walk through the grounds of the Rothamsted estate. Along the way, we'll use nets and beating sticks to collect insects. After the hunt, head over to the pavillion where we'll identify our finds with the help of microscopes and entomologists from Rothamsted Research.
There will also be fascinating talks from our scientists, including:
- Alex Borg – Alarmed Aphids: demonstration of how the aphid alarm pheromone works to keep these major insect pests safe from predation.
- Gaetan Seimandi-Corda – Floral Favourites – how flowers of different plant species attract different insects, and what flowers are ‘best’ to encourage natural enemies of garden pests.
- Friend or Foe? Try to identify the pests from the pollinators with live specimens on display!
This event is free and open to all ages. Please wear sensible shoes (no sandals) and long trousers.
If you have any questions about the event please contact lin.field@rothamsted.ac.uk.
We hope to see you there!
