We grow plants such as strawberries, spinach and maize to eat. Insects also like to eat these plants, something we don't want, so ways of getting rid of these insect pests are invented. One way is to use predators to eat plant eating insects, this is called biological control. A familiar example follows:

So ladybirds aren't just pretty, they have an important role to play in agriculture, as hungry predators.
