This podcast discuss the work on crops that could be grown in the UK to provide fuel for power stations, heating systems and possibly cars and lorries. The two main crops are Miscanthus and Willow. Willow is a common tree in the UK, but Miscanthus comes from Japan and Korea. It is an unusual type of grass - it grows 3m tall in one year! Andrew's work is to find out how to grow the crops - what pest and disease problems occur, what fertilizers are necessary.
