Biography

Xiaowei Li is a Bioinformatics scientist at Theodoulou Lab, Rothamsted Research. His primary focus lies in the application of Multi-omics and Pan-genomics tools to unravel intricate pathways and networks connecting genotype, epigenetic states, RNA expression, and protein abundance in the Arabidopsis MAGIC population.

Prior to joining Rothamsted, Xiaowei was a Postdoctoral Associate in Plant Breeding and Genetics at the Gore Lab, Cornell University. He applied multiple approaches (GWAS, TWAS, Fisher’s combined test, CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene editing, etc.) with the maize Ames inbred line panel to advance the understanding of the genes, alleles and genetic mechanisms controlling synthesis and accumulation of vitamins that are limiting in maize grain, including B vitamins and vitamin E.

Xiaowei earned his Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Genetics from the National Maize Improvement Center of China, China Agricultural University, Beijing, in 2018. His doctoral research focused on investigating the genetic basis of natural variation in embryo size in maize, employing statistical genomics and molecular biology approaches.
