I started my career as a Research Entomologist in Italy studying the effects of natural products on the life cycle of the Medfly Ceratitis capitata. During this phase, I acquired complete laboratory skills including abilities in insect rearing, insect bioassays, management of long-term experiments and statistical analysis of the data. The results of my study aroused interest in the scientific community and opened the way to a cooperation with the USDA-PBARC (Hilo, Hawaii). In the same period, I was among the founders of the non-profit company BBCA in Italy.  My Ph.D. thesis focused on the ultrastructural analysis of the Medfly female reproductive system when disrupted by natural compounds. Running these experiments, I observed that these compounds were extremely interesting also for antitumor applications. Following this hypothesis, I moved to the Department of Genetics and Molecular Biology of the University of Roma (Italy) where I acquired skills regarding the culture and the manipulation of mammalian and bacterial cells and standard experience in molecular biology including nucleic acids purification, PCR, RT-PCR, gene cloning and radioactive labelling. Severe funding restrictions for research at national level, forced me to change career. After one year of a career break and a short fellowship in biochemistry at the University of Chieti (Italy), I entered the teaching profession.  Since 2010, in addition to teaching, I led several scientific research projects in experimental entomology. During my career, I developed outstanding problem solving abilities and excellent analytical skills along with a remarkable ease in conceiving new scientific and technological ideas.
