Famous researcher Profile

Avery, Oswald. 21 Oct. 1877- 2 Feb. 1955.

Dedicated bacteriologist who continued working long hours in the lab even at the end of his career, when other scientists are happy to let their students do the hard work. He showed that the transforming principle is DNA.

'If we are right, it means that nucleic acids are not merely structurally important but functionally active substances in determining the biochemical activities and specific characteristics of cells and that by means of a known substance it is possible to induce predictable and hereditary changes in cells.'
