Collaborations

Rothamsted Research has an international reputation for delivering science with impact. The institute employs over 300 research staff with scientific qualifications in biology, chemistry, agronomy, physics, engineering, IT, mathematics and statistics. Our staff are keen to see their work being applied to meet existing and future industry needs and many of the projects carried out by our researchers are fully-funded or co-funded by industry or supported with in-kind contribution from companies.

Engaging with sugar producers

Our portfolio of industrial partners includes global agri-biotech companies such as Syngenta, Dow Agrosciences, Bayer Agriculture, BASF and Monsanto and multinational organisations such as British Sugar and Novozymes Biologicals Inc. Examples of collaboration with Small and Medium-Size Enterprises include work done with VSN International, BioForsk and ADAS. We also have projects funded by industrial organisations such as the National Farmers Union and the British Beet Research Organisation. The quality and impact of our input is such that we have been very successful in building long-term relationships with our partners.

UK companies may be eligible to access funding for collaborative work with academia from UK bodies such as the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and Technology Strategy Board. In addition, a number of programmes run by the European Commission allow or require industry participation. Companies based in the East of England, for instance, may be eligible for funding from the Low Carbon KEEP Programme. Our researchers and business development staff are familiar with the funding streams available for collaborative projects and are happy to work with industrial partners to develop funding applications.
