Summary of data and its usage

The University of Thessalia was established ten years ago and the School of Technical Sciences contains the following Faculties:

  • Crop and Animal Production
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Planning and Regional Development

The Faculty of Crop and Animal Production has a five year studies curriculum and there are about 20 different laboratories with 21 doctors as teaching staff, and about 200 students.

The Laboratory of Entomology and Agricultural Zoology is involved in teaching (general entomology, applied entomology, principles of plant protection, stored product protection, agricultural zoology, bee culture and sericulture) as well as in research. Among the various research topics are included: aphid biology, ecology and biosystematics; aphids as virus vectors; thrips biology and control; apple pests and integrated management and vineyard pests. In the Laboratory there are four research projects in progress including one funded by the European Union.
