Summary of data and its usage

The Research Station at Changins employs 200 people. It has seven scientific departments:

• Crops and pasture
• Forestry and horticulture
• Viticulture and wine production
• Plant improvement and seed certification
• Plant pathology
• Agricultural zoology
• Soil biology and chemistry

Within the Agricultural Zoology Department, the section on crop and soil entomology comprises eight people, and has operated a suction trap for studies on aphids since 1982. Since 1994 the trap has also been used to study `ballooning' by spiders. Near the trap is a weather station operated by the Swiss Institute of Meteorology.

The EXAMINE project conforms perfectly with the objectives of the agronomic research in Switzerland, with its emphasis on the long term impact of global change (human activity and climate) on ecosystems and biodiversity.
