Summary of data and its usage

Instytut Ochrony Roslin (Plant Protection Institute) is a large, independent scientific centre and is carrying a major responsibility for research, implementation and extension in plant protection. It has 20 departments. Main research areas are:

• increasing knowledge on agrophages in order to elaborate methods of their control
• forecasting and registration of agrophages and plant protection economies
• biological evaluation of plant protection products and modernisation of crop protection programmes
• non-chemical methods of plant protection
• evaluation of plant protection product quality and determination of their residues in crops
• effects of plant protection treatments and industrial emissions on the environment
• bases for integrated plant protection programmes
• extension service

Plant protection science consists of numerous specialisations, therefore Instytut Ochrony Roslin widely cooperates with domestic and foreign research centres and international organisations. During 1972-1989 the Institute served as the Coordinating Centre of Plant Protection Research for the Countries of Central and Eastern Europe.

The Institute is a member of the International Organisation of Biological Control, participates in the activities of European Plant Protection Organisation and other scientific organisations and associations.
