Ladybird about to devour an aphid
Ladybird about to devour an aphid

Rothamsted photographer Graham Shephard has won a prize in the 2004 Novartis and The Daily Telegraph Visions of Science Photographic Awards.

Graham’s stunning image of a ladybird tucking into an aphid won a highly commended award in the Action category. “I had to use ladybirds during their overwintering phase,” Graham explains. “Because of this, they weren’t very lively so it took hours before I was able to get this shot.”

The prizes were awarded by Lord May at the Royal Society, London last week. All prize winning images are on display at a special exhibition at the Science Museum, London until the 17th November before touring science and arts centres around the UK.

The photograph is available for reproduction on request. For more information about the touring exhibition and to view the winning images visit www.visions-of-science.co.uk
