School Education Days
Pupils will take part in activities to learn about farming, where our food comes from and plant growth, with all activities closely related to the relevant sections of the National Curriculum Key Stage One for science. This builds on similar activities developed at Broom’s Barn in conjunction with primary schools teachers. All the activities are group based and last for 30 to 45 minutes covering each topic in detail. The activities are related to national curriculum targets in science and maths.
The two events will be attended by a minimum of 120 and a maximum of 240 children from six local schools.
Resources provided to schools before attending the school day via a ‘Teacher Education and Awareness Day’ and the Broom’s Barn ‘Bertie the Beet’ website will ensure that pupils maximise the time that they are on site. Web resources and data collected during the activities carried out at Broom’s Barn can be used by the teachers in subsequent lessons enhancing the learning value gained from the visits.
Two events are planned for 2011. If you are interested in attending or would like more information please contact ian.pettitt@bbsrc.ac.uk (01284 812232)
Teacher education and awareness event
The aim of this project is to raise awareness and increase the knowledge of agriculture, food production and conservation for school teachers in East Anglia.
This is will achieved by hosting two teacher education events at Broom’s Barn during the 2010/11 academic year.
These events will provide the teachers attending a broad and detailed understanding of agriculture in East Anglia and its importance in national and international food production as well as its economic and social impact.
By raising the awareness of teachers it is possible to influence the education of a large number of pupils about food production and farming in our region.
Two events are planned for 2011, one in the Spring Term and One in the Summer Term. If you are interested in attending or would like more information please contact ian.pettitt@bbsrc.ac.uk (01284 812232)
