Broom's Barn Applied Crop Sciences
Crop Productivity
Dr Eric Ober
Research Group Leader
Prof. Keith Jaggard
Objectives
This group researches ways to maximise the capture of resources, reduce abiotic stress and minimise post harvest losses to improve the profitability of UK arable rotations, which include sugar beet, and to reduce their adverse impacts on the environment. We also carry out research to improve the quality and predict the yield of the sugar processor’s beet supply.
Main Research Projects
- Drought tolerance and water use efficiency
- Crop growth models
- Autumn growth and fungicide physiology
- Environmental impact of the crop
- Nitrogen fertiliser and light capture
- In-field frost protection
