  • Career summary

Patrick gained his PhD from the University of Nancy, France on "Stereoselective carbon-carbon bond formation by anionic and radical routes in the carbohydrate field ” in the group of Dr. Y. Chapleur. He then went to the University of Exeter where he worked as a post-doctoral fellow on the development of the Julià asymmetric epoxidation reaction using poly-leucine as chiral catalyst under Professor S. M. Roberts. He worked for industry as a senior research chemist for ChiroTech (formerly Chiroscience) in Cambridge on the chemical synthesis of chiral amines and amino acids for external customers. Patrick first joined the BBSRC at the Institute of Food Research in Reading and then Norwich as a Bio-organic Research Chemist researching the synthesis of physiologically active molecules using enzymatic and chemical reactions, fractionation of human milk oligosaccharides for biological evaluation.

    Current research

Patrick currently researches the chemical synthesis of natural compounds or analogues required by biologists for evaluation of their biological properties in support of other projects within the division or others divisions.
