Summary

I am a theoretical physicist specialized in fluid dynamics with an initial background in elementary particles physics. My primary research carried out at the University of Milan, involved the study of the dynamics of quarks. Then I moved to the University of Warwick to gain a PhD in Computational Fluid Dynamics. My PhD project focused on the study of deposition of spherical and cylindrical particles from a ribbed channel flow onto adjacent flow boundaries by using Large Eddy Simulation. Then I started to work at Silsoe Research Institute and subsequently transferred to Rothamsted Research studying the motion of aerosols in turbulent flows. In the last years, Lagrangian stochastic models have been developed and applied to simulate the dispersion and deposition of Brownian particles under non-isothermal conditions. Charged particles have been investigated by formulating a new class of stochastic models compatible with Kolmogorov theory. Particle deposition onto rough surfaces has also been studied via Large Eddy Simulation. Up to august 2007, my research consistsed in modelling searching strategy of insects. Since then I am working with Dr. Frank can den Bosch as a theoretical plant disease epidemiologist. My current project will test the general hypothesis that gene use efficiency (duration and size of benefit per gene) can be optimised using a well developed deployment strategy.
