The Geescroft Wilderness covers an area of 1.3ha that was once arable land which was abandon in 1886. It is a naturally regenerating woodland with a relatively uniform stand of trees dominated by oak and ash. Holly dominates the understorey and there are few cover species due to the high acidity of the soil
